The Romantic Playbill Project: Recording Performance in Britain, 1750-1850

          Our project documents the history of performance in England and Scotland in the period 1750 to 1850. Digitising playbills from libraries and archives across Britain and the U.S., we have created a new resource that reveals the prodigious expansion of theatrical culture in the Romantic period, both in terms of new dramatic forms such as melodrama and in the number of new theatres opening across the country.
